The event
Chelsea is often viewed as an idyllic space in the heart of London. Beautiful parks, historic buildings and the hustle and bustle of shops. But under this genteel image lie some dark secrets and stories of espionage, deceit and drama.
From Soviet agents, Nazi agitators, and spy catchers to thriller writers, this captivating tour will highlight some of the area’s best kept secrets.
The tour will take in the supposed home of James Bond, the site of a pub frequented by members of the Cambridge Spy Ring and the site where a Nazi agent went on trial for treason.
Starting and ending at the info point at Chelsea Gate, the tour will last about two hours.
The guide
Guy Fairbank is an award-winning Blue Badge Guide and City of London Guide, with a wide-ranging interest in London’s history, from the City’s livery companies to the rock heritage of West London.
He’s particularly drawn to Chelsea, with its extraordinary variety of stories, having worked for several years in Flood Street and Draycott Avenue. In the past, he has led walks around SW3 both privately and for the Chelsea Society.
