About the event
This summer, two authors release new accounts exploring the experiences of Jewish people living in Nazi- and Soviet-occupied Poland during the Second World War.
Roger Moorhouse’s The Forgers uncovers the remarkable story of a group of Polish diplomats based in Switzerland who saved the lives of thousands of Jewish people during the Holocaust by issuing them with forged Latin American identity documents.
Daniel Finkelstein examines the work of these diplomats from a personal angle in Hitler, Stalin, Mum & Dad. Their work was pivotal to the miraculous survival of his German-Jewish mother during the Holocaust. As a young child, her false Paraguayan passport spared her from the gas-chambers, and she was instead sent to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp.
Together, they will discuss this remarkable untold story of one of the largest actions of the war designed to aid Jews facing the threat of extermination.
