About the event
A faint red line on an antique map revealed the forgotten road, the ‘Old Way’, a route medieval pilgrims are thought to have travelled to reach the shrine of Thomas Becket. This remarkable rediscovery charts a winding journey linking prehistoric earthworks, abandoned monasteries, Saxon churches, ruined castles and historic seaports.
Gail Simmons recounts her experience of exploring the ‘Old Way’ through all four seasons to rediscover not only a lost history of knights, kings, peasants and pilgrims, but also the joy of walking and embracing the concept of pilgrimage in the modern day.
