The event

Fascinating history can be found right on your doorstep! As the team behind the Channel 4 series The Great British Dig demonstrated, our back gardens can be full of historic artefacts just waiting to be unearthed.

Join Dr Chloë Duckworth, one of the expert presenters on The Great British Dig, as she takes you behind the scenes to delve deeper into the sites that the show visited, from a Victorian prison to a secret prehistoric village.

She will discuss the techniques that the team use to uncover remarkable finds and offer new insights into the discoveries that they made. Budding archaeologists will learn how they too can conduct a dig in their back gardens, discover more about their local area and identify their own finds.

The speaker

Dr Chloë Duckworth is one of the expert presenters on The Great British Dig. She is a lecturer in Archaeology at Newcastle University, a published academic author, and a public speaker. She was a member of the BBC’s 2017 Expert Women cohort and has presented at New Scientist Live.

In 2021, she was shortlisted for the Outstanding Archaeological Achievement Award by the Council for British Archaeology for launching a high-profile media campaign to promote the positive benefits of archaeology.
