About the event

Winston Churchill charted his own course in life. He yearned to be ‘great’, to gain historical immortality. And he did so through deeds and words: his actions as a soldier and politician, gilded by his writings as a journalist and historian.

But his pathway to greatness was also defined by the leaders he met along the way – friends and foes, at home and abroad. They all offered different perspectives that influenced how Churchill viewed the world.

David Reynolds shows how these leaders, not all of whom Churchill would have deemed as ‘great’, provide alternative mirrors by which to compare, critique and evaluate his life, leadership and legacy.
