The event

Britain’s landscape is scarred with haunting and romantic remains; spaces once filled with life that now stand as ruined witnesses to our past.

Matthew Green will revive the memory of these shadowlands, a journey that will encompass diverse ruins such as an Orkney settlement buried in the sand 5,000 years ago, the lost city of Trellech unearthed by moles in the Welsh Marches and the medieval city of Dunwich, plunged beneath the waves of the North Sea by a storm.

Hear the extraordinary stories of how these places met their fate and what impact their disappearances have had on the shape of Britain today. By exploring these dead-end locations, lost to history through causes as varied as war, natural disaster and technological progress, the precarity of our own towns and cities is brought into striking relief.
