The event

The turbulent, brutal Age of Chivalry witnessed the Black Death, the Peasants’ Revolt, the Hundred Years’ War against France and savage baronial wars against the monarchy.

It was a time when medieval queens were seen as dynastic trophies. And yet, many of the Plantagenet queens dramatically broke away from the restrictions imposed on their sex and played an active role in shaping the events of their time.

Renowned historian Alison Weir will uncover the lives of five remarkable queens from the high Middle Ages, bringing this dramatic period to life. She will review the lives of the politically active Marguerite of France, notorious Isabelle of France, popular Philippa of Hainault, sophisticated Anne of Bohemia and fiercely loyal Isabella of Valois, revealing the proactive role that they played in Medieval society.
