About the event
Enjoy some interactive family storytelling with Natty Mark Samuels. Natty Mark will celebrate the deities, guardians and spirits of the water that feature in African and Caribbean oral tradition.
You will hear about Nomkhosi, the River Maiden of Zulu folklore, and Omi, which is the Yoruba word for water. You will also be invited to participate in chant and brain teasers.
This event will take place outdoors. Please dress appropriately for the weather and bring an umbrella if needed.
Tickets are free and include entry to Chelsea Physic Garden for the day.
About the storyteller
Natty Mark Samuels is a writer, teacher and folklorist, who lives in Oxford. He is the founder of African School, which was set up in 2009 to introduce African Studies to the general public. African Studies incorporates the Caribbean and the Americas, as well as Africa.
His book, The Encyclopedia of Rootical Folklore: Plant Tales of Africa and the Diaspora, will be published March 2024.
