The event

In this special event, Dan Jones will discuss his venture into historical fiction as he debuts his new book, Essex Dogs, the first instalment in an epic new trilogy set during the Hundred Years War.

In conversation with Saul David, Jones will unpack the process of writing historical fiction and provide insights into the inspiration behind his new novel which begins in July 1346 when ten men land on the beaches of Normandy, ready to fight for the throne of the largest kingdom in Western Europe.

The speakers

Dan Jones is a historian, broadcaster and award-winning journalist. His books, including The Templars, Crusaders and, with Marina Amaral, The Colour of Time and The World Aflame, have sold more than one million copies worldwide.

He has written and hosted dozens of TV shows including the acclaimed Netflix/Channel 5 series, Secrets of Great British Castles. His writing has appeared in newspapers and magazines including the London Evening Standard, Sunday Times, Daily Telegraph, Wall Street Journal, GQ and the Spectator.

Saul David is an award-winning historian and broadcaster who has written extensively on military history and specifically the Second World War. He has published many books on the subject, including Crucible of Hell and SBS: Silent Warriors.
