About the event
The withdrawal of British and American troops from Afghanistan in August 2021, and the resulting collapse of the Afghan government, triggered a multinational evacuation effort. As part of this endeavour, the British Army launched Operation Pitting to evacuate British nationals and eligible Afghans from the country.
Join Levison Wood and Geraint Jones as they discuss the events of this unexpected and intensive modern operation. Drawing on first-hand accounts, together they will explore how this historic logistical undertaking took shape and draw parallels with the disastrous British withdrawal from Afghanistan in 1842.
