The event

The events of the Battle of Dunkirk have continued to capture popular imagination in the decades since the iconic evacuation took place.

The remarkable escape of the British Expeditionary Force has been featured in film and fiction. Yet, a detailed understanding of the German perspective on the evacuation has been lacking.

Join historian Robert Kershaw as he speaks with Robert Lyman on the subject of his major new history of the evacuation that asks what went wrong from the German perspective.

The speaker

Robert Kershaw joined the Parachute Regiment in 1973 and ultimately commanded 10 Para. He attended the German Staff College then spent a further two years with the Bundeswehr as an infantry, airborne and arctic warfare instructor.

Upon leaving the British Army in 2006, he became a full-time author and military analyst. He has published 12 books on military history and frequently writes magazine and newspaper articles.
