The event
Following the success of her exhibition at Les Invalides – the Royal Hospital’s French counterpart – Elo de la Rüe du Can will be launching a new display at the 2022 Chelsea History Festival.
The installation of artwork depicts life at the Royal Hospital, including some of its residents, and is accompanied by short stories, thoughts and impressions written by the Chelsea Pensioners.
You can see the display along Royal Hospital Road throughout the festival.
The artist
Elo de la Rüe du Can is an illustrator and textile designer who studied at the National University of Decorative Arts in Paris. Following an accident, she was hospitalised at Les Invalides, an institution for the care and housing of wounded veterans.
In February 2022, Elo staged an exhibition at Les Invalides, depicting the lives of its residents and caregivers through portraits and stories. Since then, she has visited the Royal Hospital Chelsea for a further series of interviews and portraits – this time with the Chelsea Pensioners.
