About the event

The Second World War devastated the historic quarters of many cities and towns across central Europe. Cities like Warsaw and Frankfurt had to be almost completely rebuilt. Today, their old-seeming facades attract tourists from around the world but the stories they tell about places, peoples and nations are selective.

Uncover the turbulent history of central Europe’s old towns with Marek Kohn as he offers a new insight into the politics of European history-making. He will reveal how these towns have been used since the Second World War to conceal political tensions and reinforce particular versions of our history.

About the speaker

Marek Kohn is the author of nine books, including Four Words for Friend, A Reason for Everything and Dope Girls. Their themes include diversity, identity, nationalism and the social implications of science.
